If you could write a letter to yourself and read it in one year, what would you say???
If you could write to yourself and read it in one year, what would you say??? My English teacher during my Junior year has us write a letter to ourselves, and she mailed it to us, one year later. I remember writing about my latest crush, my family life, sports I was competing in, you know, typical high school stuff. I completely forgot about the letter until something arrived my Senior Year. I don't know about you, but I loved getting mail, still do! I was confused because it looked like my writing but I didn't know what it was. Reading it, a year later, so much had changed. I'm sure I had a new love interest and new things were going on in my life. But it was so neat to reflect on all the great, and maybe not so great things that had happened in that year.
So how about this, a new twist on an end-of-the-year activity. Have your students write a letter to themselves. Here are a few suggestions:
What hopes do they have for themselves in the future?
What do they predict life will be like for them?
What will the next school year be like?
What is happening in their life, RIGHT NOW!
I think this a great writing activity for students of any age!
This video does has the same concept, but does it backwards. It would work well with older students! Let me know what you think about this activity!
