3 simple classroom rules to live by

For the first few years of teaching, I tried out different rules. I had the students come up with them and they'd sign them, I'd come up with them and we'd agree on them, and so on and so forth. I found that the list of rules was becoming too long. Thanks to Project GLAD, I've been using these the last 3 years. They're great because they apply to EVERYTHING!!!

Each day, I have two students who are my "Scouts." They are in charge of looking for scholars who are showing respect, making good choices, and solving their problems. In the middle of a lesson, I'll ask a scout to choose someone who's being a scholar. Here's a few sample responses:
"Ethan is showing respect by sitting quietly."
"Lilly is making a good choice by keeping her hands in her lap while listening to the story."
"Kamakana is solving his problem by asking his neighbor what problem we are on."

Try them out in your class, they're great and easy to reinforce throughout the day!
